Flimsy Locks and Bad Luck

It is hard sometimes to brainstorm ideas of what to write about on my blog. To help generate ideas, I went on another woman’s blog because she had a list of possible topics to write about. The one that stuck out to me was “Write About a Time When you were Publicly Embarrassed”. When I skimmed over that idea, a personal experience came to my mind. I think that having a blog requires you to be vulnerable so here goes nothing!

I can’t believe I’m writing this, I can’t believe I’m writing this, I CAN’T BELIEVE I AM WRITING THIS!

As most of you know, last week I went with my family to Arizona to watch a few Spring Training games. During the 3rd or 4th inning of the first game we attended, I had to get up to use the restroom. Grace, my cousin, needed to go too, so we headed up to the restroom waited in line (because the restroom was filled with ladies), and I entered a stall nearest the sinks where tons of people were standing. I locked the door with the flimsy lock, and did my business.

Now I don’t know if this is something that most people do, but I occasionally check my phone while going potty.  Now I am sorry if some of you are grossed out by this (feel free to leave a comment below), but I promise you that a lot of people do this while going doing their business. I must have

been on Twitter because I got caught up in what I
was reading. I must have been looking at my phone for probably 30-40 seconds. After I realized how long I was looking down, I look up from my phone and saw the incomprehensible.

The door of my stall was wide open. WIDE OPEN, PEOPLE!

I. WAS. MORTIFIED.

I immediately shut the door and locked it. Then I thought “I should stay in here for a few minutes so I can let all the people who might have seen me, exit the bathroom.” So I waited a few minutes, exited my stall, washed my hands, and met up with Grace. As soon as I met up with Grace, I told her what happened. Her uncontrollable laughter did not make me feel any better about the situation.

I know you are thinking that the moral of this story should be to not use your phone while using the restroom. But if I learned anything from this experience, it would be to PAY ATTENTION while using a restroom stall with a flimsy lock.

I might regret posting this story.

Do you have an embarrassing moment that is similar or worse than mine? Email me at Theshelbylens@gmail.com and I will post it on my blog. Don’t worry, it will remain anonymous, and I might give you a small gift for participating!

All About Alex

I wanted to try something new for this post! I interviewed my oldest sister, Alex. I had a lot of fun doing this interview! Thank you, Alex!

S: If you could do anything what would it be?
A: I don’t know how to answer this one. Am I a bad interviewee? Actually, I think I would probably want to go on a Kardashian Vacation to Bora Bora. Because I love the ocean and there’s no place I’d rather be.

S: Tell me about your first kiss.
A: BLEHH! I don’t want to say any names but it was in the car. After that, I fell out of the car because I was so embarrassed.

S: Tell us a joke.
A: Why are bananas never lonely? Because they hang around in bunches. HAHAHAHAHA!

S: What is your earliest memory?
A: Picking off Jelly Beans from my bunny birthday cake, and getting yelled at. But there is one problem; I don’t know what birthday that was so I don’t know if it is my earliest memory.
She got super creative with her poses.

S: Describe yourself in one word.
A: Well how would you describe me in one word?
S: I’m the interviewer, I can’t answer for you.
A: Indecisive.

S: What was the saddest moment of your life?
A: Probably when Great Grandpa died. Because he was the cutest and grumpiest old man I knew. He was also my first loved one to pass away.

S: What was the happiest moment of your life?
A: When I got accepted into Cal State Los Angeles!

S: Do you have any funny stories from your work life?
A: Well, last week this old guy fell on me as he was walking out of the restaurant because he was drunk. I thought he was going to kiss me or something!

S: What lessons have you learned in your past relationships?
A: The word love is an easy word to throw around. Also, you know that you’re in love because you can’t picture the rest of your life without that person.
Alex and her boyfriend, Eric.

S: What is your favorite article of clothing?
A: Probably my sequins bathing suit. Because it's shiny and I like to shine. You can never go wrong with buying a bathing suit. It also represents my love for the ocean.

S: If you could tell a big group of people something, what would it be?
A: I really don’t know. I am a bad interviewee! Can you just delete the whole thing?

You will find the person you love when you least expect it.

So much fun! Love you, Alex.

SPRING BREAK

It has been a while since I put something up on the blog. I have been so busy enjoying my spring break! My family got back from Arizona on Tuesday. We stopped off at the Grand Canyon. It was great!! The views are absolutely breath taking. If you haven’t had the opportunity to go, I think you should make it a priority. I am so glad I had the chance to vacation with my family. It was a bummer not having Alex, my sister, with us. However, I am so grateful that we could take some time and just have fun and enjoy each other’s company! Just a little side note, I was also accepted to work on Program Staff at Campus by the Sea, so I will be spending my summer teaching kids about Jesus and swimming in the ocean! God’s blessings are completely overwhelming! (But that’s an entirely different blog post in itself!)
Grand Canyon!!
Yesterday was such a great day. I went to Disneyland with my good friend, Lauren. Her mom and her friend hung out with us as well! It was a great day filled with eating and laughter. We went to The Blue Bayou, the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was really fun. If I were to give a review, I would say that it has a cool atmosphere but the food isn’t all that it is cracked up to be. I, personally, enjoyed my food, but it is expensive for what you are receiving. It is a fun place to be, though!
DISNEYLAND!!

My favorite ride of the day was the Radiator Springs Racer ride in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. It is such a fun ride! The reason why I like it is because it is a mix of fun and slow and then at the end you speed up! You really feel like you are in the middle of the desert and the ideas put forth to create the ride are GENIUS. It is worth the wait!

When my friend Lauren and I went on Pirates of the Caribbean, for the last ride of the day, we stepped in line like usual. Then this lady walks up BEHIND us and accuses us of cutting her in line. We politely let her go in front of us, even though we both knew that she was cutting US in line. Then my friend Lauren whispered “Sorry” in a sarcastic voice and the lady turns around as says “IT’S OKAY” in the rudest voice ever. I think she needed a hug, or a nap. I think the moral of the story here is to not take your tiredness out on other people. Little did she know, I am actually a nice person and I abide by “No butts, no cuts, no coconuts” SHEESH!
Favorite view in the park!

Spring Break is one of my favorite breaks during the year because it is conveniently placed in one of the toughest times of the year. You are just starting to get tired of school and then BAM you get a week off! It is nice to be able to sleep in and spend time with people you love. Also, it is nice to have my sister in town from San Diego. Since she moved away for school I don’t get to see her as much, so when I do get to see her, it is a real treat! It is so nice to reenergize just in time to finish off this semester! Hope everyone is enjoying their week. I understand that a lot of you are not on Spring Break, and I am sorry if this post is killing you softly!

Destination: Phoenix

Yay! My first mini-vacation blog!
We have been having a wonderful time on our mini-vacation! We were so lucky to be able to share this vacation with Greg, Jenne, and Brianna Ring. However, we do miss not having Travis Ring, and Alex (my sister) with us! We left on Thursday night and drove directly to Prescott Arizona to watch a few Dodger Spring Training games.  Prescott is so beautiful. In the morning on Friday, we all went to breakfast and went to downtown Prescott to window shop and look around! It's a beautiful little city! It has the small town feel that I am so in love with! In the middle of day we drove to Phoenix.

Beautiful Prescott, Arizona
We checked into our hotel and picked up my cousin Grace. It was so great! Grace is my cousin and my best friend, and I only get to see her a few times a year. She is from Boise, Idaho and goes to school at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix! The Rings, my family, and Grace headed off to the Dodger game! We all had a great time. The weather was perfect during the night game! Unfortunately, the Dodgers lost and that's all I'm going to say about that!
I love Grace!

Today, we woke up and headed to an afternoon game. The stadium that we went to was very unique because they had lawn seating. We got to watch game while we rested on the grass! It was a lot of fun even though it was so hot. A few sun burn lines later, we left the game and went to pick up Grace, and my other good friend Jace.
Lawn Seating

We took them out to dinner and had a great time. It was so great to hang out with them and enjoy each other's company! Living far away from people I am close with is hard sometimes, but it was such a treat to hang out with the both of them!
Grace, Jace, myself, and Sydney

Tonight we are staying at my dad's aunts house. They have two chihuahuas (so this should be interesting). We are excited to hang out and see some more Dodger games! I will post in a few more days when I am home, so you guys can see how the rest of our vacation went! Have a great week, everyone!

mini-vacation: noun. A 2-4 day vacation that is taken by plane, boat, or car. Usually includes your best friend and a backpack.
